Jesse became the father of David the king, and David became the father of Solomon by the wife of Uriah.
Solomon became the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam became the father of Abijah, and Abijah became the father of Asa.

Hezekiah became the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh became the father of Amon, and Amon became the father of Josiah.
Josiah became the father of Jechoniah and his brothers at the time of the deportation to Babylon.
After the deportation to Babylon, Jechoniah became the father of Shealtiel, and Shealtiel became the father of Zerubbabel.
Zerubbabel became the father of Abiud, and Abiud became the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim became the father of Azor.

Eliud became the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar became the father of Matthan, and Matthan became the father of Jacob.
Jacob became the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.
Therefore, all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon were fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ were fourteen generations.
The birth of Jesus Christ happened in the following way. His mother, Mary, was engaged to marry Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
But Joseph, her husband, was a righteous man and did not want to publicly disgrace her, so he intended to divorce her quietly.
As he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, because the one who is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
She will give birth to a son, and you will call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
All this happened in order to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying,
“Behold, the virgin will conceive in her womb and give birth to a son, and they will call his name Immanuel”— which means, “God with us.”
Then Joseph woke up from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and he took her as his wife.
But he did not know her until she gave birth to a son. Then he called his name Jesus.
